Indians constitute one of the biggest foreign communities at many of the world’s best universities. But the popular choices for Indians are generally the USA, Canada and the UK. Some very highly developed nations like Japan have relatively very few Indian students studying there. But the Japanese Consulate wants to change that and has a plan for it.
One of the biggest obstacles that a student hits while dreaming of studying in Japan is the near compulsory requirement of knowing Japanese language for any degree. Toshihiro Kaneko, Deputy Chief of Mission from Consulate General of Japan in Mumbai, said that interested Indian students will be given the opportunity to study in Japan.
He said that these would include scholarships, language learning support, resources and guidance. For the same, an MIT Japan Facilitation Centre has been created at MIT World Peace University.
Japan has been actively participating in many projects in India including the high speed bullet train project. To further strengthen the relationship between the two countries, Japan wants to invite more Indian students in its universities.
