USCIS issues 140,000 employment-based Green Cards annually. However, only 7% of these cards can go to any one nation. Thus, Indians, Chinese, Mexicans, Filipinos, and others face extremely long wait times for Green Cards due to high demand and little availability.

In employment-based immigration, highly trained professionals from these nations suffer severe delays and uncertainty due to this systemic problem. This issue affects Green Card applicants, their families, and their companies.

Due to immigration processing timeframes, families face lengthy separations, damaged relationships, and worry about their future, while organizations may struggle to keep and recruit global talent.

Comprehensive immigration reform is needed due to the country-based quota system’s restrictions. Advocates suggest fixing the Green Card backlog, offering relief to people who have been waiting for years, and reassessing the quota system’s fairness and efficacy. Any major system adjustments would require legislative approval, complicating the situation.
