The American dream has been cut short for 104 illegal Indians who landed on Amritsar via a military flight from the US. The visuals and experiences that people shared from the journey are harrowing for the entire community.
US Border Patrol (USBP) Chief Michael W. Banks shared a video of the deportation after the flight took off from their country. It was accompanied by a warning, “If you cross illegally, you will be removed,” and it showed Indians in handcuffs and chains.
When the media interviewed the individuals who landed in India, their stories painted an even grimmer picture.
Jaspal Singh, 36, from Punjab, paid ₹30 lakh to an agent for legal entry but he was tricked, arrested, and deported. “We were handcuffed and our legs were chained the entire flight,” he said, claiming the restraints were only removed after landing in Amritsar.
Many deportees endured horrific journeys, crossing deadly jungles and seas to get to the US via illegal routes. Some lost everything, even seeing fellow migrants die on the way.
Trump’s crackdown on immigration is far from over. With more deportations expected, thousands of Indians are living in fear.
