The United States in an effort to clamp down on countries helping Russia has imposed mass sanctions on International firms. This includes multiple companies of Indian origin as well.
The US Treasury and State Department targeted nearly 400 firms from over a dozen countries to curb supplies to Russia’s military. This is a clear message from America who vehemently oppose Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.
According to US officials, Indian companies like Futrevo and Shreya Life Sciences were supplying drones and US-licensed tech worth millions to Russia. Along with these latest sanctions, the US Department has also issued a warning to India urging them to stop this trend.
While the restrictions are only limited to private companies, if the government doesn’t intervene it could have major consequences. With Canada already turned against India, the last thing the government needs is to have diplomatic and economic tensions with the US as well.
However, Russia is also an important ally of India. This may put India in a tough spot, balancing its strategic ties with both rival countries.
