The US-Iran war has been going on for more than 3 weeks, and Trump has denied Iran’s peace deal, continuing attacks on the Middle Eastern nation through its allies. Now, a new report suggests Saudi Arabia may be quietly pushing the US President to go even harder.
According to The New York Times, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has allegedly been privately urging Donald Trump to intensify strikes on Iran. White House officials told the paper the crown prince advised Trump to “keep hitting the Iranians hard.”
The reported message reflects Saudi Arabia’s long-standing hostility toward Iran. Trump has been sending mixed messages about the war, at times claiming the US is close to victory while also admitting that heavy strikes will continue without giving any justifiable reason.
Iran has been hitting back at US allies. It reportedly launched more than 2,000 missiles and drones toward Gulf states and regional targets in recent weeks. The latest drone strike was reported on a fuel tank near Dubai airport.
Publicly, Saudi Arabia and other Gulf Cooperation Council states have condemned Iran’s strikes but have avoided openly joining US military retaliation. The New York Times report highlights the contrast between public diplomacy and alleged private pressure.
Neither the US nor the Saudi governments have publicly addressed these reports, but the doubt still remains. While Gulf leaders appear cautious in public, White House may be hearing very different advice behind closed doors.
