US Student Visa Ban: Will India Be Next?

The immigration crackdown has reached ridiculous heights as Republicans introduced a bill in Congress to ban all Chinese students from getting student visas. However, this isn’t just about China, it’s a warning sign for all international students, especially Indians.

China was the top source of students for years, but India recently took that spot. If US lawmakers are willing to cut off one of their biggest sources of international students, what’s stopping them from doing the same to India?

The reasoning behind this bill is even more absurd. While they claim Chinese students are a security risk, only 5 arrests were made last year out of over 300,000 students.

The security reason is only a veil to carry out this extreme crackdown against immigrant students. If this bill moves forward, it could set a dangerous precedent.

Moreover, this isn’t just terrifying for Indian and Chinese students, it’s worse for the US economy too. Universities heavily depend on international students for funding, especially from these two countries.

Even STEM companies rely on Indian talent through OPT and H-1B programs. With experts already warning about a US recession, pushing away skilled workers and students could make things worse.

Today, it’s China, tomorrow, it could be India. If security is the issue, stricter background checks are the solution, not this ridiculous ban.
