US Teen Slapped Teacher In School; Booked For Assault

An American student has been charged with assault and kidnapping and is being treated as an adult, despite being 17 years of age. Aquavis Hickman was seen confining and assaulting his teacher in a video that went viral on the internet.

This is not the first time that Hickman assaulted a teacher. He did the same back in February. After the incident hit the internet, the police booked him under several charges including kidnapping, and attacking a government official. Hickman did not stop with the assault but delivered verbal threats to the lady teacher as well.

Incidents of violence at American schools are not a new thing. For a long time, the most powerful country has been facing the issue of mass shootings in its schools. The weak gun laws have led to easy access to destructive weapons which in turn has led to a sense of fear among students and their parents.

The student-teacher relationship in the US is much different than in India and most of Asia, where the teacher is viewed as a mere professional rather than someone responsible for the growth of the students. Even the kind of respect Asian students give their teachers is unheard of in the US.

The police have decided to give a strong message to the public to curb incidents like this in the future.
