US Visa Crisis in AP: Big Changes Coming Soon

As Telugu people are increasingly applying for American visas, the US consulate is now considering establishing a new application center in the region.

Rebekah Drame, US Consul General, shared the staggering number of students from Telugu states traveling to the US for higher studies. While Telangana comprised 34% of the total Indian students in the US this year, Andhra Pradesh contributed 22%.

With the rise in demand, the US is finally considering setting up a new Visa Application Centre (VAC) in Vijayawada or Visakhapatnam. Currently, people from Andhra have to travel to Hyderabad for visa processing.

This will reduce the strain on the Hyderabad centre which only processes 1,600 visa applications daily. They plan to increase this number to 2,500 by the next year as there are plans to double or triple the staff by 2025.

As India has become the top source of International students in the US, there are more plans to make the application process easier. Thus, the new center in Andhra Pradesh is not just a convenience, but a necessity.
