US Visa Crisis: Marriage Question Ruining B1/B2?

A woman with a stable job, a solid travel history, and a family waiting to visit her brother in the US recently got a reality check from the consulate as getting a visa gets more difficult every day.

Taking to social media, the Indian B1/B2 visitor visa applicant shared her full details and experience at the consulate. While her parents got their visa approved last year, hers recently got rejected indicating the sudden shift after Trump’s crackdown on immigration.

She had an impeccable background- working as a Design Manager with 9+ years of experience, a stable job, travel history in Europe, UAE, Singapore, Thailand, owned property in India, and a brother willing to sponsor her trip. Yet, she was handed a 214 (b) rejection, given to those who are at risk of migrating to the US.

According to her as soon as she disclosed her marital status as “unmarried,” the visa officer shut her case and denied her visa. It is absurd that a woman who has her whole ecosystem in India is being rejected just because she is at “risk” of settling in America.

The sad reality is that these rejections are becoming more common. And until the system becomes more transparent, such rejections without any reason will continue.
