Visa Reforms To Greatly Benefit Indian Americans!

There’s good news for millions of people who are eagerly waiting for a US employment based green card. Republican Pramila Jayapal has introduced a bill in the US House of Representatives that is going to help numerous immigrants including Indians by greatly reducing the waiting period for a green card.

The US Immigrant Visa reform bill or HR6542 Act aims to remove the per-country caps on employment based green cards which is the biggest reason for the huge green card backlog in the USA. Along With it, the act will also increase family based green card limits.

The bill has been introduced by a bipartisan group of lawmakers and hence have a higher chance of getting approval from the house. Currently the Indians have to face a waiting period of decades to get a green card.

The green card backlog in the US reached a record high of 1.8 million this year. The waiting period is high especially for countries like India and China. The bill is going to benefit a large number of Indians who have been working in the US.

The current 7 percent per country cap on employment based green cards will be slowly phased out. Waiting period in some cases have been as high as 134 years which shows the inefficacy of the current immigration system in the US.
