Akhil Akkineni’s Agent has turned out to be a massive embarrassment, both in theatres and on OTT. Desperate for a solid hit, Akhil teamed up with Surender Reddy for this high-budget spy thriller, but the film completely misfired.
Released on April 28, 2023, Agent received negative feedback right from its first show. To make matters worse, a legal dispute between a distributor and the producer delayed its OTT release by nearly two years.
The film finally premiered on Sony LIV on March 14. While some hoped the OTT audience might view it differently, the response has largely remained negative, with only a few calling it “not that bad.”
Viewers have criticized the film’s poorly written script, illogical action sequences, and forced fights.
Surender Reddy, known for commercial hits like Athanokkade, Kick, Race Gurram, and Dhruva, failed to deliver even a basic action thriller. Even his previous flops like Ashok and Oosaravelli had some memorable moments, but Agent lacked even that.
Social media reactions were harsh, with some even claiming Akhil’s debut film Akhil: The Power of Jua was better in comparison.
Many people aren’t even giving it a try with so much compelling content to watch on OTT. They don’t want to waste their time watching a film that has been unanimously declared as atrocious.
Ultimately, Agent has become a rare case where neither theatrical audiences nor OTT viewers found much to appreciate, making it an unforgettable and regrettable disaster for both Akhil and Surender Reddy.
