YRF Spy Universe witnessed the entry of another flop with Alpha this year after War 2 in 2025. While there were many reasons behind the movie not working at the box office, it is now streaming on Netflix. People who did not watch the film on the big screen are now sharing their reactions on social media.
While the reviews were mostly negative when the film first arrived in theatres, the reactions have been completely opposite on OTT. The movie is shockingly receiving praise.
Although netizens believe that the story was not up to the mark, Alpha was not unbearable compared to what people had to go through when they were watching War 2 in theatres. Some even compared it with Toxic, saying that Alpha can be a better choice for the audience sitting at home instead of wasting their money on Yash’s film.
A few claimed that certain things still could have been improved in the film. Most of them said that the India-Pakistan angle should have been avoided or presented with a unique angle. Furthermore, some said that the pre-climax to climax sequences were cringe and their writing could have been better.
The criticism towards the cameo of Hrithik Roshan remained the same. Netizens claimed that it was a waste of opportunity, with a few claiming that the cameo should have been utilized.
Apart from this, a majority wrote that Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh did a lot of hard work. However, the negativity that emerged based on comparisons with Dhurandhar and the previous entries of the YRF Spy Universe destroyed its potential at the box office, turning it into a big flop.
The reactions have proved that the YRF Spy Universe is still relevant. It needs some good writers and directors who can present the spy stories in a unique form every time. The positive response on OTT is clearly expected to work as motivation for the producers to continue the franchise. But the question is whether the makers have learned from their mistakes yet.
