Big Director: OTTs Biased Against This South Indian Language!

OTT has given a new platform for artists all around the world to showcase their talent. In India, the OTT business witnessed a huge growth during the COVID years and now it has become a really huge part of the entertainment industry. But not everyone is equally excited about the rise of OTT in India. Speaking at a very prominent event, one of the big filmmakers of the country has alleged OTT platforms of being biased against one particular south Indian language.

Speaking at the International Film Festival of India, actor and filmmaker Rishab Shetty accused that OTT platforms weren’t open to the Kannada film industry. He felt that the Kannada industry doesn’t get the same kind of recognition in the OTT business as other language movies do.

Rishab made a request at the IFFI to give recognition to the Kannada film industry. He believes that films which get less exposure at the theaters should also get an opportunity to perform at OTT platforms. He said that OTT platforms complain that there are not many subscribers for the Kannada content.

This is a rare occasion when a regional entertainment industry is attacking the OTT platforms. These platforms have managed to bring language diversity in the industry and helped bring forth content from various languages that wouldn’t have had any recognition if not for OTT.
