Bigg Boss 20 trails OTT chart leader
Is Bigg Boss 20 losing its grip on the audience already? Salman Khan’s hugely popular reality franchise returned with plenty of buzz, a fresh set of contestants and the usual pre-season chatter, but the premiere episode has found itself behind an unexpected rival on the latest OTT charts.
According to latest reports, Bigg Boss 20 clocked an impressive 6.4 million views on JioHotstar. Yet, it could only take the second spot despite having a huge number. The top position was retained by Samay Raina’s India’s Got Latent 2, which pulled in a much higher 7.8 million views across Netflix and YouTube.
That is where things get interesting. Bigg Boss has been one of India’s biggest reality TV brands for years and Salman Khan remains one of its biggest attractions. This season also came with a lineup featuring names such as Kanika Mann, Mahhi Vij, Mary Kom, Gullu, Qazi Touqeer and Yung DSA. But even with Salman and all the pre-release curiosity surrounding the contestants, Latent is currently ahead by a considerable margin.
Of course, calling Bigg Boss 20 a flop would be a stretch. 6.4 million views is still a huge opening, and the season has only just begun. But the fact that India’s Got Latent has managed to stay firmly at No. 1 says a lot about how strongly the show has connected with viewers.
Meanwhile, Rohit Shetty’s Khatron Ke Khiladi 15 came third with 5.5 million views, followed by Amitabh Bachchan’s Kaun Banega Crorepati 18 with 5.1 million. For now, though, the bigger surprise is clear: Salman Khan brought the numbers, but Samay Raina’s Latent still owns the top spot.
