What to Watch on OTT

Shocker: Pushpa 2 Failed, Daaku Maharaaj Wins!

Predicting a film’s audience connection is extremely tricky these days. With OTT platforms breaking language barriers, Telugu films have reached global audiences. However, Telugu films have often struggled in Kerala, with Allu Arjun being a rare exception.

Starting from Happy, Bunny’s films have had strong traction in Kerala. But Pushpa 2 failed to impress the Malayalam audience, even on OTT. Even otherwise, Pushpa 2 couldn’t make much of an impact after its digital release on Netflix. Many watched it and forgot it.

Surprisingly, Nandamuri Balakrishna’s Daaku Maharaj is making waves with the same Malayalam audience where he previously had zero popularity. Streaming on Netflix for four days, the film has gained unexpected popularity among Malayali viewers.

Despite its average theatrical run, Daaku Maharaj is enjoying good appreciation on OTT. Social media is buzzing with praise for Balakrishna’s performance, elevation scenes, visuals, and BGM.

What’s more surprising is that Malayali audiences—known for their preference for class films—are now embracing Balayya’s mass appeal. Many are only now realizing his screen presence, proving that OTT platforms can change audience perceptions in unexpected ways!
