What to Watch on OTT

Does Animal’s OTT Cut Hang In Dullness?

OTT is losing its flamboyant spirit as more and more chains are restricting growth with ongoing regulations. Previously, OTT platforms started the trend to stream censored versions of Indian films, and Netflix is definitely joining the trend.

Indian films on online streaming platforms, including Netflix, now adhere to the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) cuts.

Previously, digital releases often featured director’s cuts with objectionable content restored for OTT audiences. However, the current trend involves streaming platforms airing the same censored versions released in theaters, aligning with Indian streaming services.

Now, the streaming of these censored versions won’t be limited to India, as this will be a global phenomenon.

Some of the theatrical films that were streaming on OTT, such as OMG 2 and Vijay’s Leo, marched on the same path with a global censored version. Now, there comes the question: What about Extended Cuts?

Animal was supposed to have an extended cut, which looked very exciting after the theatrical version tasted the limits. It was violent and pretty graphic for moviegoers, but on OTT, things could have been much better—a feast for the fans.

But now, as things are going towards a censored and certified version for the content that will be streaming, the excitement might die down. Previously, Pathaan and Jawan capitalized on the matter, but again, an action like this will definitely crucify the free spirits of OTT—that’s a fact.
