Amazon Prime Video’s new ad-heavy model has genuinely angered viewers, and the reactions online show just how fed up people are. Instead of accepting the change, many OTT users are already finding hacks to get rid of the ads while watching The Family Man 3.
One user openly shared a trick on social media: “Don’t update your Amazon Prime for peace of mind and zero ads! Watched The Family Man 3 without a single ad on my TV. Haven’t updated the app in 8 months.”
Others are doing the same. Some refuse to update the app, some change their TV DNS settings to block ad servers, and some download the episodes offline and switch off the internet completely. A few users are even saying they would rather turn to piracy than sit through forced ads on a service they already pay for.
The frustration is real. People subscribed to Prime Video because it was ad free. Now they are being told to pay more just to keep the experience they originally signed up for. Many feel this is nothing but a bait and switch, and the irritation is spreading fast.
This growing workaround culture should worry Amazon. When viewers start treating a streaming platform like a problem they must outsmart, it slowly kills long term loyalty. If watching a simple show turns into a technical game of avoiding ads, people naturally drift away. Once they break that habit of using a platform, many never return.
Amazon will likely try to block these tricks by forcing app updates or tightening ad systems. But forcing ads on already annoyed users could easily make the experience worse.
Right now, Prime Video no longer feels premium to a large section of its audience. It feels restrictive and frustrating. The anger seen in these threads is not random complaining. It is a warning sign from subscribers who are losing patience.
