GDN OTT: Can Madhavan’s Flop Find Success on Netflix?

Madhavan‘s GDN directed by Krishnakumar Ramakumar was released in theatres on August 7th and has received mixed responses from audience members and critics alike.

Many viewers, after watching the film in theatres, responded that even though it contains a lot of information, the predictable screenplay and poor execution prevent GDN from engaging as a film, making it feel draggy.

Since GDN was released alongside Lokesh Kanagaraj’s acting debut film, DC, which went on a rampage at the box office with super positive word of mouth, GDN went unnoticed and ended up as a box office failure.

Following its disastrous theatrical run, GDN is now all set to stream on Netflix with a four-week OTT window on September 4th in five languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi.

In response to the OTT release update of GDN, some people on social media claim that the film might perform well on OTT. They point to the reactions of some audiences, who shared positive responses during the theatrical release, suggesting that GDN is definitely not a bad film and appreciating Madhavan’s acting performance in it.

They note that because of the wrong release date and DC’s huge success, GDN didn’t reach its target audience, which is why it failed in theatres. However, they feel that since the OTT release will help GDN reach a wider audience, it will find its viewers and become a successful venture.

Nonetheless, it remains to be seen whether GDN satisfies the expectations of the OTT audience and emerges as a successful venture on the platform upon its release on September 4th.
