Ritesh Shah’s directorial, set to release on Netflix, landed in controversy soon after its title Ghooskhor Pandat was announced. Several caste communities objected strongly, alleging that the title unfairly portrayed their identity using negative associations.
The backlash quickly escalated on social media, with Manoj Bajpayee, who plays the lead role, becoming a major target. Trolls accused him of insulting his own caste and even dragged his personal life, including his marriage, into the controversy.
The matter reached the Supreme Court, which questioned the intent behind using a caste marker in the title. The court asked the makers to remove the caste reference and raised concerns about why one specific community was being singled out or portrayed negatively.
In the film, Manoj Bajpayee portrays an unethical police officer involved in accepting bribes and facing serious consequences. Following the court’s direction, audiences are now curious whether the film will be renamed Ghooskhor or given an entirely new title.
