The first Pakistani movie to premiere in cannes will be made available for streaming on the OOT platform Mubi India from 1st December, 2023. The film directed by Saim Sadiq was the first Pakistani cinematic product which received the Jury Prize and the Queer Palm at Cannes.
It is a narrative about Haider, a young guy coming from a conservative household that gets employed as a replacement for the female dancers in one of the night clubs based on bollywood style burlesque. He even admires one of the night club hostesses called Biba, a Family life, sex and gender roles in an oppressive environment are among the key issues discussed in the movie.
Critics and viewers praised it for being one of the most daring and well rounded depictions of the LGBTQ+ community Pakistan. The second film in focus is Joyland. It is a celebration not just of a beautiful Lahore, but also of its cultural vibrancy.
