What to Watch on OTT

OTT Is Overrated? YT Channel Bigger Than Netflix & Prime

Watching South films dubbed in Hindi has become a core memory for many Hindi speaking audiences. What many people do not realise is that these films are part of a massive entertainment business. The demand for dubbed content continues to grow rapidly.

Founded by producer Manish Shah, Goldmines Telefilms, a Mumbai based company, specialises in acquiring and dubbing South Indian films. Movies featuring Rajinikanth, Allu Arjun, and Jr NTR are dubbed into Hindi, Bhojpuri, and Bengali. These films are distributed through television, satellite channels, digital platforms, and YouTube.

The company mainly focuses on action films that appeal to mass audiences. Its content is especially popular in smaller cities and rural regions. These are places where multiplex access is limited and television remains a primary entertainment source.

Goldmines Telefilms has built a powerful digital presence over time. Its YouTube channel currently has 109 million subscribers. The Hindi dubbed versions of the Kannada language blockbuster K.G.F. and its sequel together have crossed more than a billion views.

In comparison, major OTT platforms report much smaller numbers. Jio Hotstar’s Special Ops Season 2 recorded around 29.6 million views. Prime Video’s The Family Man Season 3 saw about 24.6 million views, while Netflix’s Ba***ds of Bollywood reached 16.7 million views.

These figures highlight the massive reach of free digital distribution. Goldmines’ YouTube channel continues to deliver viewership numbers that streaming platforms rarely achieve. This reflects the strong demand for accessible entertainment content.

Prime Video recently introduced the Goldmines Play streaming service as an add on subscription priced at INR 39 per month. The move shows growing recognition of the dubbed content market. Industry observers see this as a strategic expansion.

Through YouTube, many films are made available free of cost in North Indian languages. This allows audiences to watch popular South films without paying subscription fees. Accessibility remains the biggest strength of this distribution model.

Manish Shah has not publicly revealed YouTube revenue figures. However, he has stated that television channels generate around 400 crore in revenue. This indicates the strong value of satellite rights in India.

Less than 15% of the Indian population pays for subscription based streaming services. Many viewers prefer spending on internet data rather than OTT subscriptions. Advertising supported platforms like YouTube therefore play a major role in content distribution.

These trends show that a much larger audience wants access to films and entertainment. Paywalls and expensive theatres often limit reach. Free and ad supported platforms help bridge this gap.

When viewed from a broader perspective, the reach of mass action films becomes clear. The market for dubbed films continues to expand. A large untapped audience still exists across India.
