Hridayapoorvam: Mohanlal’s Second Chance on OTT?

Mohanlal’s Hridayapoorvam, directed by Sathyan Anthikad, hit theatres on August 28th and received mostly positive reviews from both audiences and critics. The film was part of the Onam festival releases.

However, despite favourable feedback, many viewers chose to watch Kalyani Priyadarshan’s superhero film Lokah, which was released on the same day. This impacted Hridayapoorvam’s box office performance.

As a slow-paced, feel-good drama, the film did not appeal to all moviegoers during the festive season. As a result, it had an average theatrical run.

Now, Hridayapoorvam is set to stream on JioHotstar from September 26th, just four weeks after its theatrical release. It will be available in five languages: Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi.

With the film gaining appreciation in cinemas, there is growing anticipation for its OTT release. Many viewers who missed it in theatres are now looking forward to watching it online.

Malayalam film trackers have noted that feel-good films like Hridayapoorvam often perform better on OTT than in cinemas. This could work in the film’s favour on digital platforms.
