There are only two OTT platforms in India dealing with the major sports events. Jio Hotstar is handling IPL, ISL and SonyLIV streams the popular tournaments like UCL and Europa league.
But there has been huge dissatisfaction for both the platforms and fans are disappointed with the streaming experience. People have complained about the problems of Jio Hotstar’s commentary and ads in significant match moments, but it looks like it is still better than SonyLIV.
SonyLIV has frustrated fans with its Champions’ League streaming and people are urging Jio Hotstar to take the rights for Champions’ League from now on.
There are as many ads on SonyLIV as there are in Hotstar and the pre-match discussion is a total mess. It takes out the time from the match and there is no productive technical discussion too. The talk goes about in fringes and never penetrates the core of the game.
International games with players like Christiano Ronaldo, Messi and Luka Modrić have high expectations and people star excited for these matches for the whole year and they deserve to experience them smoothly and comfortably.
It looks like Jio Hotstar is not the ideal platform for sports streaming but it is still better than SonyLIV. The sports streaming segment has a very low bar in India and it needs to have a solution very soon.
