JioHotstar: Best of OTT, But One Big Disaster

With the launch of JioHotstar, you can now watch live cricket and your favourite Marvel films on a single platform.

With close to 3 lakh hours of entertainment, live sports coverage, and more than 50 crore users, JioHotstar has emerged as India’s largest streaming service, set to redefine entertainment.

It combines the deepest selection of Hollywood entertainment, the best of Indian shows and movies from all parts of the country, and the widest sports offering, becoming a complete entertainment package.

Subscription plans start at ₹149 while existing JioCinema and Disney+ Hotstar users seamlessly transition to JioHotstar.

JioHotstar includes everything from both platforms. It will now be the home of Domestic & International Cricket, IPL, WPL, PKL, ISL, Hotstar Specials, Disney, HBO, Peacock, Paramount+, Marvel, Pixar, Star Wars, National Geographic, Colors and Star.

For those who don’t have an active subscription, sports clips, highlights and content trailers continue to be free on the web browser.

The platform offers three subscription plans. The Mobile plan costs ₹149 for three months or ₹499 for a year, allowing access on one mobile device with ads.

The Super plan, at ₹299 for three months or ₹899 for a year, lets users stream on two devices, including mobile, web, and TV but still has ads.

The Premium plan is ad-free and costs ₹299 per month (web purchase only), ₹499 for three months, or ₹1,499 for a year, with access on up to four devices.

While people are discussing the pricing and wide range of content they will be able to watch on a single platform, they are also discussing JioHotstar’s logo, for all the wrong reasons.

The new JioHotstar logo looks terrible. However, some believe this was a deliberate marketing move to stir controversy and generate free publicity. If that’s the case, it’s a clever strategy by the marketing team.
