Lokah OTT Shocking Response: Bengaluru Fans Hurt?

Kalyani Priyadarshan’s female-centric superhero film Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra, directed by Dominic Arun, released in theatres on August 28th and enjoyed a strong run at the box office. After its blockbuster performance, Lokah has now arrived on the JioHotstar OTT platform in five languages: Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Kannada and Hindi.

While many viewers continue to praise the movie, some social media users are calling it overrated and saying it is only an average superhero film. This mixed chatter has picked up soon after the OTT release.

Meanwhile, a section of Kannadigas appears upset with the film. They claim that Lokah portrays Bengaluru in a negative manner and shows local people in poor light. According to them, the story could have been set in Kerala without affecting the plot, and there was no need to target Bengaluru.

They also point out that even in Fahadh Faasil’s Aavesham, a Malayalam gangster was shown dominating Bengaluru and college campuses. Because of this, they feel Malayalam filmmakers repeatedly depict Bangalore negatively, and some are even suggesting that the Karnataka government should take action if this trend continues.

These comments criticising Lokah for allegedly showing Bangalore in a bad light are now going viral online, with heated debates and reactions spreading across social media.
