Lust Stories 3 is just out on Netflix and getting several responses from viewers. But the early reactions are not as uniformly glowing as some of the social media hype suggests. It almost seems like some of them were paid reviews!
The Netflix anthology brings together four stories directed by Vikramaditya Motwane, Kiran Rao, Shakun Batra and Vishal Bhardwaj. Like the earlier two times, it explores relationships, desire, marriage and unconventional ideas around love and lust.
A major point of appreciation is the variety across the four segments. Viewers have found the Motwane and Kiran Rao stories particularly funny and easy to watch, while the Shakun Batra and Vishal Bhardwaj chapters are seen as more emotionally layered.
The performances have also emerged as a strong point. Radhika Apte and Konkona Sen Sharma receiving praise. Radhika Madan, Aditi Rao Hydari, Ali Fazal and Sparsh Thambi have also made an impression. The chemistry between Radhika Madan and Vijay Varma, as well as Sana Thambi and Gurfateh Pirzada, has been singled out by many viewers.
However, there is some negative feedback too. One user questioned the purpose of the husband-swapping story. According to them, its controversial premise does not lead to any meaningful point. That concern matters because Lust Stories has always tried to use sex and desire to explore larger questions about relationships. This time, it seems like the stories are merely a shock value.
Early reactions obviously suggest that Lust Stories 3 is more entertaining than its predecessor for many viewers. There is still a sense that it has recreated the impact of the first and second installments.
For now, the anthology seems to be winning people over with its performances, humour and bold themes. However, some viewers remain unconvinced by what certain stories are ultimately trying to say.
