Mobile Giants Target OTTs For Bigger Revenue!

Mobile giants are seeking a bigger slice of the revenue from OTT platforms by bundling streaming services into their mobile plans. This trend benefits both the telecom companies and their customers.

For telecom operators, it means more money as people upgrade to higher data plans to enjoy smooth streaming. For consumers, it’s convenient because they can pay for mobile, internet, and streaming services all in one bill.

These bundle deals often save customers money. For instance, Vodafone Idea offers a plan at ₹248 that includes 17 OTT apps, which is almost 50% cheaper than paying for each app separately.

This is a big win for prepaid users, who make up most of India’s smartphone owners.

But now there’s a question: Should OTT platforms give some of their earnings to telecom companies?

The telecom firms argue that they spend billions improving their networks to support better streaming, but they don’t get any share of the profits from the OTT services.

This issue is becoming a global discussion, and in some places, like South Korea, there are already revenue-sharing agreements in place between OTT platforms and telecom companies.
