Tamil star Ajith Kumar’s recent hit Good Bad Ugly, directed by Adhik Ravichandran, has been removed from Netflix. This surprise move follows legendary composer Ilaiyaraaja’s copyright infringement case against the film’s producers for using his songs without permission. Tracks like Ottha Ruba Tharen, En Jodi Manja Kuruvi, and Ilamai Idho Idho were featured in the film without securing proper rights.
Ilaiyaraaja had demanded Rs. 5 crore in damages and a written apology from the makers. Following his legal action, the court issued an interim order banning the film’s distribution with his music. This directly led to its removal from Netflix, leaving fans disappointed.
The film, which released in theatres on April 10, became a box office hit and later premiered on Netflix on May 8. This dispute between Ilaiyaraaja and Mythri Movie Makers highlights the need to secure music rights before release. Ilaiyaraaja has previously taken similar legal action against other films like Manjummel Boys.
Meanwhile, torrent sites are already promoting pirated HD versions of Good Bad Ugly. This not only frustrates fans who prefer legal streaming but also highlights the piracy problem OTT platforms face during such disputes.
