Nothing angers OTT audiences more than interruptions in a sports match. And Indians are very sensitive about their cricket matches. It is nothing new that people are tired of glitches while streaming important matches.
But people had to face a new problem from Disney+Hotstar in the last India vs England ODI match. There was no option for an English audio in the commentary. There was only the Hindi commentary and no regional languages too. This does not seem fair because fans are used to watching matches with commentary in their regional languages or at least in English.
Netizens have complained about this all over social media and posted video proofs as well. A portion of the users think that this is a result of Hindi imposition on states speaking other languages and has a very specific agenda.
Whatever might be the reason, if this continues, fans are not going to be very satisfied with the service of Hotstar anymore and the platform has to take more care about these problems.
However, despite the problem, people have appreciated the fact that the commentary was in ‘Hindusthani’ and not in the recently hyped up ‘pure, uncorrupted’ Hindi.
Fans are now demanding an official clarification from Disney+ Hotstar regarding this issue. Some users have even raised concerns about whether this is a one-time glitch or a deliberate move. With major cricket tournaments coming up, Hotstar must address this promptly to avoid losing its loyal user base. Meanwhile, rival streaming platforms are closely watching the backlash, as any dip in Hotstar’s reputation could work in their favor.
