On Netflix, Devara of Jr. NTR is now bigger than Prabhas’s Kalki 2898 AD with overall views touching 8.6 million whereas Kalki has fetched 8 million views.
The movie was able to sustain the momentum for four weeks. In the first week, it achieved 2.2 million views. The second week achieved 1.9 million, the third 1.7 million, and in the fourth week, it again received 2.8 million views.
In these four weeks, it remained within the top 10 of Netflix worldwide, a feat that is not easy to achieve in 2024.
Despite having a mediocre plot and performance, the film wasn’t highly liked by the viewers but still managed to have a decent run at the box office. Upon its OTT release, it received quite some backlash from the fans but once again it still managed to make it up with good viewership numbers.
The main reason behind Devara’s success might be JR. NTR’s mass appeal attracted a lot of Hindi viewers in OTT. Despite getting mixed reviews from the audiences, the film managed to beat Prabhas’s Kalki.
With a mediocre run at the box office and OTT, Devara cemented Jr NTR’s massive superstar status proving how he can sell tickets with an average story and cast. It would have been fascinating to see what would have happened if Devara had a better plot and more energetic performances.
