Pippa: A.R. Rahman’s Magic Overshadows Ishaan’s Performance

Ishaan Khatter, the emerging star of Bollywood who has showcased his skills in movies like A Suitable Boy, Phone Bhoot, and Beyond The Clouds, is back with his new movie “Pippa.” The film is based on the 1971 war that occurred during the emergence of Bangladesh. Pippa, as the name suggests, is the title of the Russian tank that was used during the war, capable of running on both land and water.

“Pippa” is a powerful war movie that features compelling performances from Ishaan Khatter, Priyanshu Painyuli, whom we have seen in Mirzapur 2, and the beautiful Mrunal Thakur. The cinematography appears to be on point. Director Raja Krishna Menon, who previously directed “Airlift,” takes a nuanced approach to a simplistic storyline.

What “Pippa” lacks is freshness in its story. Since it is a war movie, there are many familiar tropes that are quite similar to other films. The small role of Sam Manekshaw is a treat for fans, whose story we will witness in Vicky Kaushal’s “Sam Bahadur.”

Overall, it’s a good movie, but people are more interested in its music than other areas. The biggest surprise of Pippa is A.R. Rahman’s background score and music.
