Prime Video Ad Free Streaming Now Costs More

Amazon has announced a price increase for the ad free streaming option on Prime Video. The decision affects viewers in the United States. The company has raised the monthly cost by two dollars, creating fresh discussion among streaming subscribers.

Starting April 10, the ad free tier will cost 4.99 dollars per month. The earlier price was 2.99 dollars. Amazon has also decided to rebrand this plan as Prime Video Ultra to present it as a premium upgrade.

According to the company, the updated tier will offer several additional features. Users will be able to stream content on up to five devices at the same time. The plan will also support 4K video quality and allow downloads of up to 100 titles for offline viewing.

Amazon stated that maintaining ad free streaming and expanding premium features requires continued investment. Because of this, the company believes the new pricing model reflects the growing cost of high quality streaming services.

The platform had introduced advertisements on Prime Video in 2024. Users who wanted to remove commercials were asked to pay an extra monthly fee. The move triggered debate among analysts and subscribers at that time.

Some industry observers predicted that the change might lead to subscriber losses. The issue also resulted in a class action lawsuit. However the case was later dismissed and the service continued to grow.

Amazon reported that its Prime subscriber base has continued to expand despite the controversy. The company stated that Prime Video now reaches more than 315 million ad supported viewers worldwide.

Advertising revenue linked to the platform also showed strong growth. According to Amazon, ad revenue from its streaming services increased by 22 percent during 2025.

The latest price hike reflects a wider trend in the streaming industry. Many platforms are now moving toward layered subscription models where ad free viewing and premium features come at an additional cost.
