Suriya’s ‘Retro’ is all set to have its OTT premiere now. It will be released on Netflix on the 31st of May in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
The movie was supposed to be the comeback film for Suriya. But the star will have to wait a bit longer for his comeback now. Retro has been a disaster. And it had to clash with movies like ‘Thudarum’, ‘Raid 2’, ‘Hit: The Third Case’ in different regions.
It did not work out well in Telugu regions in spite of huge distribution support. There were many screens available but the turnout was poor. And in case of Tamil Nadu, a smaller film ‘Tourist Family’ gained better word of mouth and gave tough competition to Retro.
Now, only OTT can give a redemption to the movie. There have been many cases where theatrical disasters have turned out to be OTT hits. The timing of the movie did not work in favour of the movie, as there were many movies from different languages in theaters at the time.
But that will not be the case on OTT. There is a good chance that people finally go to see Retro on Netflix and it gets a better view count, as it happened for films like Laal Singh Chaddha.
