John Abraham’s The Diplomat was probably one of the most underrated films of 2025 so far as it had everything to offer for the viewers yet no one showed up.
The film tells the true story of diplomat JP Singh, whose routine life is disrupted when Uzma Ahmed arrives at the Indian embassy, seeking help.
She says she’s an Indian citizen who was kidnapped and forced into marriage in Pakistan. Based on true events, the film garnered praise from everyone who watched it in theatres.
However, it turned out to be a disaster for John Abraham as it collected around 30 crores at the Indian box office.
Though the film faced huge competition from Chhaava and L2 Empuraan, the film managed to make headlines due to getting good reviews from the viewers and critics.
As the film is ready to make its digital premiere on Netflix from May 9, it might be the perfect time for the film to be viewed by a worldwide audience.
While it didn’t turn any heads in terms of box office collection, The Diplomat brings a huge layer of opportunity for the platform as well as the makers to capitalize on poor box office collections.
Being a global OTT streaming platform, Netflix would certainly cater to a wider audience, helping The Diplomat get global reach.
While the film promises to trend on global charts given the reviews it received at the time of its release, only time will tell how the film will turn out to be ahead of its May 9 release.
