Suriya’s Vishwanath and Sons directed by Venky Atluri, was released in theatres on August 14th and received mixed responses from critics.

Despite the mixed reviews, the film connected well with family audiences and the general public. Consequently, Vishwanath and Sons performed well at the box office and emerged as a commercial success.

Following its successful theatrical run, Vishwanath and Sons started streaming on the Netflix OTT platform with a 4 week OTT window from September 11th. People who missed watching it in theatres were waiting to watch it on OTT and are now sharing their responses on social media.

Before the OTT release of Vishwanath and Sons, many people expected that it would perform well on OTT and achieve a Pan-Indian reach, because feel good films usually perform well on OTT.

However, surprisingly, Vishwanath and Sons is receiving mixed responses from OTT audiences as well and shockingly, many people are trolling the film.

Some people claim that Vishwanath and Sons feels plastic and that most of the emotional sequences in the film feel artificial to them. Additionally, some people are trolling the film, especially Radhika’s death sequence in which she dies with a smile on her face. They are comparing Radhika’s death scene with the old Chandramohan character’s iconic death scene and creating meme templates from it.

Also, they note a particular scene in which Vishwanath’s stepmother gives him relationship advice about a girl’s true love. Pointing to this scene, netizens claim that Venky Atluri tried his best to justify the stepmother character, but it didn’t land well and her advice feels awkward because of poor character development.

Ultimately, it seems like Vishwanath and Sons has lost its goodwill completely after its OTT release, and social media has been flooded with lots of trolls against it.
