No Live Cricket On Netflix India, Confirms VP

People have been urging Netflix to acquire the rights for various sports events for some time now. IPL is going on now and people gave loads of complaints for Jio Hotstar and its problems.

Netflix India’s Vice President Monika Shergill has clarified that they have no intentions of going into sports streaming now. But she also says ‘never say never’, implying that there cam be a chance of the platform stepping into the field in near future.

Netflix does sports-adjacent pragramming and has added gaming to its offerings but it will not go straight into the business. Platforms like SonyLIV and Jio Hotstar have gathered huge numbers of views with their respective sports programs.

The cricket matches on Jio Hotstar have not given fans a very good time. While the platform minted on the matches, fans were frustrated with the ads and crappy commentaries.

The other platforms do not have the goodwill that Netflix has and so people were excited when WWE came from Netflix from SonyLIV.

What we can understand from Monika Shergill’s words is that the platform is not delving into sports streaming now because they are trying to focus on original stories.

They might be missing a chance of making some profit now. But if Netflix decides to take up sports streaming, it will be a big deal for fans as they will experience smooth match streamings without any ads.
