Somewhere between pre lockdown and post lockdown India seems to have gathered a web series fatigue , where they are not into the web series anymore, like the way they used to be.
From 2020 to 2023, everyone had a personal favorite, “Paatal Lok”, “The Family Man”, “Panchayat”.
Now, new seasons have arrived: “Panchayat 4”, “Special Ops 2” but they didn’t create the much anticipated buzz which it used to create.
Few reasons behind this is firstly, currently in a reel fast world, where we get an entire story within 50 secs a long 8 to 10 hr series feels like a homework.
As well as, platforms squeeze a franchise so bad that in the end it gets bitter, apart from that, currently endless ads in between content is also a major reason the audiences lost their enthusiasm.
If Indian OTT wants their old glory back, they’ll need short runtimes, bolder originals and edge to edge intensity.
Right now, the craze isn’t dead. It’s just scrolled past.
