YouTube has introduced a new affordable subscription tier in India, designed to match the needs of cost-conscious digital users. Called YouTube Premium Lite, it focuses on ad-free streaming while removing features that many casual viewers may not require.
The plan is priced at ₹89 per month and allows ad-free video viewing across smartphones, laptops, and TVs. This makes it easier for users to enjoy uninterrupted content without paying for the full Premium suite of services.
However, limitations remain. Ads will still be visible on music content, YouTube Shorts, and while browsing or searching. The plan also excludes offline downloads, background playback, and YouTube Music, which are part of the ₹149 Premium plan.
YouTube’s decision reflects its recognition of Indian users who want ad-free viewing but do not need extra features. The Lite option makes sense in a price-sensitive market that consumes huge amounts of digital content daily.
This move could influence other OTT platforms to rethink how they price and package services. By targeting value-driven audiences, YouTube is setting a new benchmark for affordable, flexible streaming in India.
