The collaboration between Rajkumar Hirani and Aamir Khan on the Dadasaheb Phalke biopic appears to be back on track. Online reports suggest that the writing process for the film has resumed.
An insider quoted by MidDay revealed that Hirani and Aamir agree the film must feel contemporary while staying true to history. The source added that the new draft will balance humour with sincerity.
According to the insider, special focus is being given to the character arc. The aim is to portray the stature and personality of Dadasaheb Phalke effectively on screen. The draft is expected to be completed next month.
If things go as planned, production may begin from March this year. The team is reportedly moving cautiously given the sensitive nature of the subject.
Aamir Khan’s fans have reacted positively to the reports. Many feel this collaboration could be crucial for his comeback after a rough phase.
However, some viewers remain sceptical about Rajkumar Hirani. His last film, Dunki, failed to make a strong box office impact. This has raised concerns among sections of the audience.
Social media discussions also mention fears that Hirani could underutilise Aamir, similar to opinions expressed after Dunki with Shah Rukh Khan. These doubts continue to circulate online.
Despite this, Hirani and Aamir have delivered major successes in the past with PK and 3 Idiots. Their collaborations have previously resonated strongly with audiences.
That said, Hirani’s handling of sensitive subjects has often attracted controversy. The risk is higher this time since the project is a biopic.
The duo is also reportedly working on a sequel to 3 Idiots. It remains to be seen which project will mark Aamir’s comeback and recreate the success he once enjoyed with Hirani.
