CBFC Blocks Sitaare Zameen Par: Aamir Hits Back

With less than a week remaining for its June 20 release, Aamir Khan’s Sitaare Zameen Par has hit a last-minute roadblock with the Central Board of Film ertification (CBFC). The board has requested two cuts in the film without disclosing any information about the specific scenes in question.

Aamir Khan, who is also the producer of the film, has firmly refused this decision, stating that both scenes are integral to the story and “completely appropriate when seen in context.”

This impasse has resulted in the censor certificate being withheld, halting advance ticket bookings and disrupting the promotional momentum ahead of the film’s release.

The makers are in the process of reconvening with the CBFC’s Examining Committee, with the hopes of resolving the differences and securing the certificate by June 16.

Fans speculate this is a close call, considering the clearance is not guaranteed and the film will now have a shorter time frame for advance bookings and promotions.

Meanwhile, the film has already earned a clean 12A certificate from the British Board of Film Classification, citing it contains only minor references to discrimination and moderate sexual content.

Directed by R.S. Prasanna and featuring Genelia Deshmukh alongside Aamir, Sitaare Zameen Par is now getting quite a hype as it approaches its release day.

Initially aimed for a controlled rollout and extended word-of-mouth growth, the film is now expected to reach 3,000-3,500 screens across the country due to exhibitor requests.

The upcoming days will be pivotal for the film’s fate, not just in terms of release, but in testing the balance between creative liberty and censorship in mainstream Bollywood.
