Bollywood Out of Ideas? Now Mohanlal’s Thudarum Remake

Fresh ideas in Bollywood look shaky as reports claim Ajay Devgn is being considered for a remake of Mohanlal’s Thudarum. When constant remakes replace original stories, the warning signs become hard to ignore.

Ajay Devgn already leads the Hindi version of Mohanlal’s Drishyam franchise, with the third part expected after the Malayalam release. Now, another remake enters the picture, and repetition begins to feel unavoidable.

Director Tharun Moorthy confirmed that talks are underway for the Hindi version but remain incomplete. He also revealed strong interest from big Bollywood banners, including teams linked to Ajay Devgn and Aamir Khan.

“Discussions are happening to make the film with Ajay Devgn in the lead, but nothing is final,” Tharun Moorthy said. The interest only grew after the film’s massive success at the box office.

As the third highest grosser in Malayalam cinema this year, Thudarum earned praise for its story and performances. OTT viewership surged after release, making access easier than ever.

That success also raises an uncomfortable question. When viewers already consumed the original online, the remake risks feeling pointless.

Fans have grown tired of recycled content. If Bollywood wants loyalty again, original films matter more than rebranded hits.
