Big OTT Platforms Started Rejecting Akshay Kumar Films?

Priyadarshan’s Haiwaan, starring Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan, was expected to repeat the success of Bhooth Bangla. Unfortunately, the film failed to earn even a portion of those collections, emerging as a big disaster at the box office, with lifetime numbers of only Rs. 10 crore.

While the film’s failure has turned out to be a lesson for a lot of producers and directors, it is now heading to OTT. Haiwaan will premiere on SonyLIV on November 6, 2026.
Although the OTT premiere details have once again brought the film into the limelight, new information has raised a lot of questions at the same time.

Some online reports have revealed that the film is headed to SonyLIV since it failed to secure a deal with other big platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and JioHotstar. As of now, the makers or any of these platforms have not confirmed the claims on their side.

While the reports started trending, they started a debate about whether a film’s success is important so that it can secure an OTT deal with a big platform. A lot of people agreed, with some saying that the filmmakers should now step back from creating something that is not liked by the audience.

On the other hand, a majority also believes that flops or disasters deserve to come to the small screen. They gave examples of many flops and disasters over decades that became cult classics over time.

Some others alleged that the power of a film’s producer is everything that matters here. People pointed out to movies like Liger and Chand Mera Dil, claiming that they secured a deal with a big platform despite that they did not offer anything at all in terms of content and did not work at the box office at the same time.

Amid the ongoing debate, viewers are now waiting to watch Haiwaan on OTT, possibly trying to understand the reasons behind its failure. Let’s wait and see how people are going to respond after its OTT premiere.
