In recent times, action films in Bollywood were expected to rule the box office. But films like Baby John, Yudhra and Yodha have failed to connect with the audience and proved that star power is a must for a film to be a hit.
Baby John opened with 11.25 crore but couldn’t sustain, earned just 28.65 crore in 5 days. Yudhra and Yodha also had weak collections despite having action packed content, shows that there was no big star to pull the audience to the theaters.
These films show star power is important. Varun Dhawan and Siddhant Chaturvedi are talented but they don’t have the mass appeal of bigger stars like Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan who have a huge fan following and guaranteed initial box office numbers.
Bollywood’s history with action films like Tiger Zinda Hai and Pathaan shows that big stars are the key. These films work not just on high production values but also because they have global superstars who pull in the audience from the start.
