The first half of 2025 has been a disappointing period for Bollywood’s biggest stars. So far, many high-profile projects with massive budgets and ensemble casts have repeatedly failed to perform at the box office.
While a few films like Chhaava, Sitaare Zameen Par, and Raid 2 soared, the year has largely been defined more by its flops than its hits.
Housefull 5, led by Akshay Kumar and a massive Rs 250 crore budget, was expected to become an instant blockbuster. Instead, it struggled to cross Rs 200 crore worldwide, earning a “below average” title and marking the franchise’s weakest performance to date.
The film’s inability to generate buzz, despite star power and heavy promotions, showcases the audience’s growing fatigue with formulaic comedies.
Sikandar, starring Salman Khan, was another major letdown. With a production cost of Rs 200 crore, the film barely managed to cross the Rs 100 crore mark at the Indian box office.
Deva, Sky Force, Ground Zero, Bhool Chuk Maaf, and The Bhootnii failed to draw crowds or recover investments, quickly earning the label of disasters.
Prominent stars like Shahid Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, and Rajkumar Rao headlined all these films, but they failed to generate any buzz at the box office.
On the other hand, Kesari Chapter 2 and Jaat crossed the ₹100 crore mark, but audiences and analysts alike deemed them as average.
Many believe the makers today heavily rely on production and star lineups instead of focusing on utilizing the script and talents.
Despite heavy marketing and big-name stars, these films failed to create any excitement. This highlights a clear shift in audience preferences.
This trend has raised many questions, and the most significant one is whether Bollywood’s reliance on big names and lavish budgets is no longer enough for success.
With audiences demanding fresh content and intriguing storytelling, many star-driven films were stranded at the box office.
If Bollywood fails to adapt as per its audience, star power alone won’t salvage any more of their mediocre films.
