Paid Reviews, Fake Hype, Zero BO? Dead Month for Bollywood

May is usually a strong month for Bollywood, as summer holidays bring families to theatres. This year feels different. Major releases are missing, as many producers have shifted their big films to June, leaving the current box office window unusually quiet.

The films releasing now are struggling to generate genuine buzz. Pati Patni Aur Woh Do is reportedly depending on paid reviews to pull audiences. Meanwhile, Aakhri Sawal and Chand Mera Dil have seen very limited interest despite promotional efforts.

Hollywood’s The Mandalorian and Grogu is set to release on May 22, but its appeal may remain limited to a niche audience in select markets. Overall, the lack of mainstream excitement has made May a dull period for theatrical business.

June, however, looks overcrowded with major titles like Hai Jawani To Ishq Hona Hai, Welcome To The Jungle, Peddi, Bandar, and He-Man Masters of the Universe. This heavy clustering raises concerns about screen availability and revenue sharing.

Such a packed schedule could impact several films, as too many releases compete at the same time. May offered a clear window for strong performance, but that opportunity was missed, reflecting weak planning across the industry.
