Bollywood’s Shocking U-turn: Truth or Propaganda?

Bollywood has seen a recent shift in the paradigm regarding the portrayal of historical figures that shaped the nation’s past.

The industry used to show one side of the coin more than the other till a few years back. But things seem to have changed now.

Take, for example, the case of ‘Chhaava’. While Bollywood had made quite a few films on the Mughals, one of their biggest adversaries, the Marathas, went particularly unnoticed.

While these characters were known among regional people, Bollywood did little to portray them in a justified way on a national platform.

This is what seems to have changed now, as we are seeing films like ‘Tanhaji’ and ‘Chhaava’ showing the perspective from a Maratha viewpoint as well.

Bollywood must remember that creating historical cinema demands accuracy.

Now would be the time for the industry to stick to the facts, and not go around over-glorifying the other perspective to extreme levels.

Quality historical content always works to strengthen a community, as it makes people aware of their actual history without distortions or propaganda.

If Bollywood manages to stick to facts regarding both sides of history, it has the potential to be the platform portraying true Indian history to the citizens of this country.
