Controversy gets him career best opening

Actor Shahid Kapoor has been a part of Bollywood for quite some time now but unfortunately his performance has never exceeded beyond average. Finally shedding his lover boy avatar, Shahid is now appearing in more mature roles such as Udta Punjab which is gritty film that revolves around substance abuse and drug trafficking.

This might be an unusual film for Shahid but it has turned out to be his best opener although there were several hurdles along the way. Being a subject and character driven film, there was a danger of the film having a limited audience reach but the controversy with the censor board and the subsequent leak has all served to boost the film’s popularity.

The film has met with a great response at the ticket counters and has earned a whopping 33 crores on just the opening weekend.
