Adivi Shesh and Mrunal Thakur starrer movie Dacoit has finally hit the theaters today. The film also has Anurag Kashyap in a crucial role. It is a romantic action thriller set against the backdrop of the pandemic, which is quite different from usual Bollywood movies.
The public reception so far has been quite mixed. While fans are enjoying the performances of Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur, some people feel that the story is a bit outdated and doesn’t have any X factor. The action scenes and the cinematography are being praised by almost everyone. As expected, Adivi Sesh adds some of his signature twists and turns in the film.
The Hindi critics have also shared their initial reviews and ratings. Many websites have given the movie 1.5 to 2.5 stars out of 5. They mentioned that the film “manages to hold interest due to its massy moments” but also noted that the “narrative is bogged down by haphazard execution.” On the other hand, most of the Hindi audience felt Dacoit keeps promising something exciting, emotional, thrilling, only to rob them off of that experience of masala entertainer it teases.
Many felt that Dacoit turned out to be a “missed opportunity.” They felt the storytelling was quite generic at times despite the strong performances. Even YouTubers giving it mixed reviews, mostly calling the film boring, especially in the first half. Only Mrunal Thakur has won some unanimous appreciation. Atul Kulkarni, Prakash Raj, and even Anurag Kashyap doesn’t impress much.
Since there are no pan-India star in it like Prabhas or Allu Arjun, the film’s opening in the Hindi belt has been very weak. We have to see if collections improve over the weekend.
