Dhurandhar Defies BO Logic: Will It Beat Pushpa 2 Hindi?

Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar has entered the record books with an extraordinary box office performance. On its second Friday, the film collected approximately Rs. 30 crore net. This is the highest ever for a second Friday in Indian cinema.

This number comfortably broke the previous record held by Pushpa 2 The Rule. What makes this achievement even more remarkable is that the film registered a healthy 20% jump compared to Thursday. Such growth is extremely rare, especially for a movie that is already earning at very high levels.

After facing a few initial issues like block bookings in the first week, Dhurandhar has now settled into a strong and organic growth pattern. The collections are no longer driven by corporate bookings. They are driven by genuine audience interest.

The film is now firmly on track to challenge the biggest original Hindi films ever released. While Pushpa 2 still stands as the biggest benchmark, trade experts believe that Dhurandhar could come surprisingly close. This is especially likely with the Christmas holiday season approaching.

One major factor driving this momentum is the intense discussion around the film’s political themes. These topics are being debated on national television. This has pushed the movie into mainstream public conversation.

This kind of exposure has helped the film reach audiences beyond regular moviegoers. The Mumbai circuit continues to perform exceptionally well. The most encouraging sign is the improvement in mass circuits, which are now doing far better than they did during the opening days.

The strong second Friday performance has opened the door for another massive milestone. A Rs. 200 crore net second week now looks achievable. Advance bookings suggest that today, the second Saturday, could touch an unbelievable Rs. 50 crore net.

Interestingly, Dhurandhar is also performing extremely well in the Telugu states. In Hyderabad multiplexes, the film is reportedly recording houseful shows at a faster pace than Balakrishna’s Akhanda 2. Social media support has played a crucial role in amplifying this reach.

If the current momentum continues, crossing Rs. 500 crores worldwide now looks very easy. Some trade analysts are even speculating that Dhurandhar could challenge Pushpa 2’s Hindi net total of Rs. 750 crores. While this is a tough target, it is no longer impossible.

Following this massive success, the team has become very active in promotions. R. Madhavan is giving interviews regularly. Director Aditya Dhar has started sharing behind the scenes insights and thanking audiences publicly.

Fans have already begun waiting eagerly for Dhurandhar 2, which is scheduled for release on March 19 next year. Analysts believe that once the film streams on Netflix, the demand for the sequel will rise even further. For now, there are no signs of this remarkable run slowing down.
