In the early 2000s, filmmaker Farhan Akhtar reportedly planned a war drama with Salman Khan set against the 1962 India–China conflict. The project would have been his collaboration with the third Khan after Dil Chahta Hai with Aamir and Don with Shah Rukh.
However, the film never took off as Salman Khan was already committed to multiple big projects. The idea still fuels speculation about how Salman’s star power might have merged with Farhan’s detail-driven filmmaking. On paper, it promised scale and spectacle.
Yet war dramas demand emotional depth and discipline, qualities that do not always align with Salman’s larger-than-life screen presence. Soon after, Farhan directed Lakshya (2004) starring Hrithik Roshan. The film underperformed initially but is now viewed as a nuanced take on patriotism and personal growth.
Looking back, the cancelled project might have been a “Lakshya 2” with an entirely different flavour, combining mass appeal with Farhan’s craft. The missed collaboration still intrigues fans of both the actor and filmmaker.
Interestingly, two decades later, both are again connected to war backdrops, though separately. Salman Khan leads Battle of Galwan, based on the 2020 border clash, while Farhan appears in 120 Bahadur, a film revisiting the India–China conflict.
Neither of these films relates to the scrapped script, but their timing highlights Bollywood’s tendency to use war stories as patriotic showcases. Farhan and Salman’s unrealised project remains an industry anecdote, showing how timing and genre alignment decide whether dream collaborations ever happen.
